COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Oct. 7, 2011 – Colorado College will host a program featuring Marc Webb, who directed “(500) Days of Summer” and whose film "The Amazing Spider-Man" is in post-production and scheduled for release in summer 2012.
“Celebrating the Films of Marc Webb” will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 in the Richard F. Celeste Theatre, Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, 825 N. Cascade Ave., on the Colorado College campus. The program, which is part of CC’s Homecoming and Parents Weekend, to be held Oct. 13-16, is free and open to the public.
Webb, a 1996 graduate of Colorado College, will show samples of his work and answer questions from the audience. There also will be a question and answer session between Webb and Tom Sanny, retired CC lecturer in film studies. The reel includes two short films Webb made in 1994 and 1996 when he was a student at CC, scenes from "(500) Days of Summer," his 2009 romantic comedy-drama film, and the trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man."
Webb will be on campus for his 15th class reunion, and will receive the Louis T. Benezet Award from the Alumni Association at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at Shove Memorial Chapel. The Benezet Award recognizes outstanding achievement in one's chosen field, excellence through unusual success or contribution, innovation or research that has advanced a profession or a cause, and/or extraordinary contributions and achievements that have improved people's lives and exemplify the values of a liberal arts education. These attributes characterized the important contributions of Louis T. Benezet, president of Colorado College, 1955-1963.
The Spirit of Adventure Award will be presented posthumously to Carol Rymers Davis ’66. Davis, one of Denver’s leading radiologists and a world champion gas and hot-air balloonist, was competing in the Gordon Bennett Race when she was lost at sea on Sept. 29, 2010, in an area of severe thunderstorms over the Adriatic Sea.
Also receiving Alumni Association Awards are Susan Phillips Cohen ’66, who also will receive the Louis T. Benezet Award for career achievement; Philip Swan '84, who will receive the Lloyd E. Worner Award for remarkable efforts on behalf of the college; and Mike Edmonds, vice president of student life, who will be presented the Gresham Riley Award, which recognizes faculty, administrators and staff who have made a significant difference to the college.
After the ceremony, a Balinese gamelan ensemble will lead the processional out of Shove Memorial Chapel.
